Pre-Installation Checklist: Print Methods

How to Complete Your Pre-Installation Checklist for Print Methods

The purpose of this guide is to list the items necessary to configure each of the methods of submitting print jobs into EveryonePrint. This information will be relevant for both the Standalone as well as the Connect / Connect Pro version of EveryonePrint.

  1. System Requirements
  2. Web Print
  3. Driver Print
  4. Email Print
  5. Mobile Print
  6. Google Cloud Print
  7. Additional Resources

System Requirements:

EveryonePrint can be installed directly onto the Print Accounting/Management server with adequate resources. Otherwise, if the preference is to install EveryonePrint on its server, the following resources should be in place:

Server:

  • Windows 2008 Server SP1 (32 or 64 bit), Windows 2008 R2 Server (32 or 64 bit), Windows 2012 or Windows 2012 R2, Windows 2016 server.

Resources:

  • 1GB free RAM for processing of documents (4GB recommended for high volumes)
  • 5GB free hard drive space for spooled files (10GB recommended for high volumes)
  • Recent generation server CPU processor, such as Intel Xeon 64 or equivalent.

Web Print:

Web print is a basic function that allows users to upload a document or submit a URL for printing. As this option is enabled by default, the only items required are for port traffic:

  • For an HTTP connection (Unsecured), TCP port 7290 needs to be open between the server and any users who will access the portal
  • For an HTTPS connection (Secured), TCP port 9443 needs to be open between the server and any users who will access the portal
  • Note: These ports can be adjusted in the settings of EveryonePrint. Consult section "3.13.3 Change default Web ports from 7290 and 9443" of the EveryonePrint Installation Guide for information on altering ports.
  • For HTTPS (Secured) traffic, a default self-signed certificate is supplied. If the administrator prefers to use a specific certificate, consult section "11. Using SSL with EveryonePrint" of the EveryonePrint Installation Guide and this KB article about PFX import regarding the process to import a certificate successfully.

Driver Print:

Driver Print (IPP print) allows any user to easily print using "File ► Print" option on any Windows, MAC or
Linux PC/Laptop. The following are required to allow the Driver Print function to operate:

  • TCP port 631 needs to be open to allow IPP traffic between the user laptop/computer and the EveryonePrint server
  • Internet Printing Client needs to be enabled on the user laptop/PC when using a Windows operating system (This is turned on by default in most workstation versions of Windows, refer to this KB article in case of difficulty using this feature)

Email Print:

Email Print allows a user to submit an attachment via email to be either directly printed, or added to the EveryonePrint queue for release at any device. This can also be used when submitting to Print Management software queues when integrating with such software. In order to configure email print, the following is necessary:

  • A dedicated email box is required for EveryonePrint. All jobs submitted will be considered and treated as a print job, so no other mail traffic can be used in this mailbox (emails are fetched and deleted)
  • The email server address needs to be known for configuration as well as the protocol and port that server operated on.
  • The following protocols are supported:
    • POP
    • POP SSL
    • IMAP
    • IMAP SSL
    • Exchange via MAPI
    • Exchange Web Services
  • The username and password for the dedicated email box also needs to be known
  • Should an email reply be needed (This is for use with Release Codes or when sending email confirmations once jobs are submitted), the SMTP server address also needs to be known, as well as the port. TLS and SSL are also supported, if required by the SMTP server
  • Note: Office 365 is supported with the server address of http://outlook.office365.com via Exchange Web Servers, and Gmail is supported with the server address of imap.gmail.com via IMAP SSL. See Email print KB articles for detailed setup instructions.

Mobile Print:

Mobile Print allows users to print via the EveryonePrint App (Available for iOS,Android and Windows Phone) and also via AirPrint when configuring Wide Area Mobile Print in EveryonePrint.

The following needs to be addressed:

  • The EveryonePrint Mobile Gateway needs to be installed and configured
  •  TCP ports 9444 and 7910 need to be open between the Mobile Gateway server and the user devices which will connect via the mobile app
  • TCP ports 631, 7290 and 9443 need to be open between the EveryonePrint Mobile Gateway and the EveryonePrint server, if they are installed on separate servers
  • TCP and UDP port 53 needs to be open between the EveryonePrint Mobile Gateway and the iOS devices when using Wide Area Mobile Print for AirPrint

Google Cloud Print:

Google Cloud Print will allow for ease of printing via Google Chromebooks, as well as enhanced ability when using any Android device or Chrome web browser.

To configure, the following requirements are necessary:

  • A Google account which can be used as an administrative account
  • TCP port 5222 must be open from the EveryonePrint server to the external Internet
  • Outgoing Mail must be configured for use with Google Cloud Print when using Release Codes EveryonePrint
  • See KB Email print using Gmail for more detailed setup and troubleshooting instructions
